Making Cent$ - zip codes

When printing from a coupon database, such as Coupons.com or Smartsource.com, change the zip codes and you'll see a slightly different selection of coupons to print that are valid nationwide.

My favorite zip codes are: your home zip code, 90210, 92111, 63101, 28105, 62946

Making Cent$ - printing multiple coupons

When printing multiple coupons from one online source (such as Target coupons or other stores), aim to print in multiples of 3 since typically, but not always, 3 coupons can fit onto one 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. This will save on your cost of paper & ink.

Also, if you have a color printer, be sure to print in black & white or grayscale to save on the cost of colored ink cartridges.

Saving $$- BJ's Wholesale Club New Coupon Policy

FAQ - BJ's Wholesale Club

BJ's allows 1 BJ's coupon per item + 1 manufacturer coupon PER bar code of muti-pack items. Ex.: Ball Park hot dog: use 1 BJ's coupon & up to 4 mfg. coupons (multi-pack of 4), as long as it doesn't exceed the item's price. 3-pack toothpaste: 3 mfg & 1 BJ's coupon allowed. If the cashier gives you a hard time (since it's a manual override), ask for a manager. That's what I did tonight. It saved me an extra $30 by doing so.

Making $$ - The lowdown on Peapod delivery service

When I inquired about Peapod's coupon policies, this is the response that I received from the customer service rep. I've been using Peapod for years. Wish I was aware of this trick from the beginning:

How to take advantage of 2 weeks of sales in one order:
  • Sale prices are valid for 7 days from the time you SUBMIT your order.
  • Put sale items from current week in your cart by Wednesday.
  • Select a Friday through Tuesday delivery date.
  • Go back into your order on Thursday to add a whole new week's worth of sale items, in addition to the previous week's sale items. The previous week's sale prices remain, even when the sale changes. That's two week's of sale prices!
  • If anything in your cart on Wed. goes on sale on Thursday, the price will be adjusted down to the sale price automatically.

Manufacturer Coupons
  • Peapod doubles manufacturer coupons up to $.99 cents. Put the coupons in a sealed envelope with your name and/or account number. Hand it to the delivery person.
  • If you submit a coupon for an item that you ordered, but it's out of stock, I was told by the Peapod customer service rep. that they still give you credit for the coupon since you'd have no way of knowing ahead of time that something was out of stock.
  • Peapod does not accept expired or competitor coupons and cannot return invalid coupons.

Peapod Coupons
  • There is almost always a coupon or deal for free or reduced delivery fees.
  • If you order $100 worth of groceries or more (before coupons), the delivery fee is  reduced to $6.95 currently.
  • You can earn free delivery and sometimes credits to your account by referring friends
  • If items received were damaged, incorrect or otherwise unacceptable, simply call Peapod 1-800-5-PEAPOD and they'll issue a credit.

Pros:

  • Saves time by not having to go to and through the market
  • Easy to budget
  • Sort items according to your dietary preferences
  • Lower risk of buying unnecessary items
  • Driver puts the bags right on your counter
  • Tipping is optional
  • Quality is as good as, if not better than items in the store
  • Occasional free samples
  • You can request that Peapod carry a particular item
  • Helpful for busy families, working individuals, new parents, the elderly, people who do not like navigating the supermarket, etc.
  • Refer a friend and you both get $10 worth of free food.
  • Easy credit for food that is not acceptable

Cons:

  • You can't see the exact item that you're getting until it's delivered
  • Deli and seafood portions are a set amount - 1/4lb, 1/2lb. etc.
  • Store has more variety of products
  • Deliveries hour windows fill up quickly. Choose your delivery time as far ahead as possible.
  • Sometimes items are out of stock. Don't wait until the last minute to schedule your delivery, especially if you need a particular item for a time-sensitive recipe.

Making $$ - Lessons Learned

Couponing strategies to help save even more $$.
  1. Stacking - this term refers to using both manufacturer and store coupons at the same time. Check your store's policy to make sure they allow stacking. Many stores do allow stacking. If the cashier is inexperienced, they may reject one of the coupons; however, insist that one is a manufacturer coupon and one is a store coupon. When in doubt, ask for a manager. Note: Some coupons print out with the Target bullseye, but are actually manufacturer coupons. Be sure to read the label at the top, next to the date that states whether it's an actual Target coupon or Manufacturer coupon.
  2. Cashier Profiling - profiling cashiers can save time and aggravation during the checkout process (usually, but not always). See this article for more insight about how and why cashier profiling can make the checkout process go more smoothly:  http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2650601/posts.
  3. Acronyms - when perusing couponing websites, these definitions will help you decipher the couponing lingo: http://www.couponhints.com/coupon-language-dictionary.
